Arjuna said: My dear KášášŁáša, seeing my friends and relatives present before me in such a ďŹghting spirit, I feel the limbs of my body quivering and my mouth drying up. Observing the Armies on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra |
| BG 1.28 |
Humility; pridelessness; nonviolence; tolerance; simplicity; approaching a bona ďŹde spiritual master; cleanliness; steadiness; self-control; renunciation of the objects of sense gratiďŹcation; absence of false ego; the perception of the evil of birth, death, old age and disease; detachment; freedom from entanglement with children, wife, home and the rest; even-mindedness amid pleasant and unpleasant events; constant and unalloyed devotion to Me; aspiring to live in a solitary place; detachment from the general mass of people; accepting the importance of self-realization; and philosophical search for the Absolute Truth â all these I declare to be knowledge, and besides this whatever there may be is ignorance. Nature, the Enjoyer, and Consciousness |
| BG 13.8-12 |
A person who is searching after the Supreme Absolute Truth, the Personality of Godhead, must certainly search for it up to this, in all circumstances, in all space and time, and both directly and indirectly. Answers by Citing the Lord's Version |
| SB 2.9.36 |
O respectable personalities present here, I beg the blessings of all of you that I may perpetually carry on my crown the dust of the lotus feet of such brÄhmaášas and Vaiᚣášavas until the end of my life. He who can carry such dust on his head is very soon relieved of all the reactions which arise from sinful life, and eventually he develops all good and desirable qualities. Instructions by Maharaja Prithu |
| SB 4.21.43 |
The great sage Maitreya continued: Thus Sanat-kumÄra, the best of the celibates, after hearing the speech of Pášthu MahÄrÄja, which was meaningful, appropriate, full of precise words and very sweet to hear, smiled with full satisfaction and began to speak as follows. Prithu Maharaja's Meeting with the Four Kumaras |
| SB 4.22.17 |
Otherwise, a person who acts whimsically falls down due to false prestige. Thus he becomes involved in the laws of nature, which are composed of the three qualities [goodness, passion and ignorance]. In this way a living entity becomes devoid of his real intelligence and becomes perpetually lost in the cycle of birth and death. Thus he goes up and down from a microbe in stool to a high position in the Brahmaloka planet. King Puranjana Goes to the Forest to Hunt, and His Queen Becomes Angry |
| SB 4.26.8 |
O King, all good fortune unto you! The mind is the cause of the living entityâs attaining a certain type of body in accordance with his association with material nature. According to oneâs mental composition, one can understand what the living entity was in his past life as well as what kind of body he will have in the future. Thus the mind indicates the past and future bodies. Talks Between Narada and King Pracinabarhi |

The path followed by pure devotees, who are well-behaved and fully endowed with the best qualifications, is certainly the most auspicious path in this material world. It is free from fear, and it is authorized by the ĹÄstras. The History of the Life of Ajamila |

Indra replied: My dear mother, because I was grossly blinded by selfish interests, I lost sight of religion. When I understood that you were observing a great vow in spiritual life, I wanted to find some fault in you. When I found such a fault, I entered your womb and cut the embryo to pieces. Diti Vows to Kill King Indra |

HiraášyakaĹipu had four wonderful, well-qualified sons, of whom the one named PrahlÄda was the best. Indeed, PrahlÄda was a reservoir of all transcendental qualities because he was an unalloyed devotee of the Personality of Godhead. Hiranyakasipu Terrorizes the Universe |
| SB 7.4.30 |
PrahlÄda MahÄrÄja replied: O best of the asuras, King of the demons, as far as I have learned from my spiritual master, any person who has accepted a temporary body and temporary household life is certainly embarrassed by anxiety because of having fallen in a dark well where there is no water but only suffering. One should give up this position and go to the forest [vana]. More clearly, one should go to VášndÄvana, where only KášášŁáša consciousness is prevalent, and should thus take shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Prahlada Maharaja, the Saintly Son of Hiranyakasipu |
| SB 7.5.5 |
Unless they smear upon their bodies the dust of the lotus feet of a Vaiᚣášava completely freed from material contamination, persons very much inclined toward materialistic life cannot be attached to the lotus feet of the Lord, who is glorified for His uncommon activities. Only by becoming KášášŁáša conscious and taking shelter at the lotus feet of the Lord in this way can one be freed from material contamination. Prahlada Maharaja, the Saintly Son of Hiranyakasipu |
| SB 7.5.32 |
These are the general principles to be followed by all human beings: truthfulness, mercy, austerity (observing fasts on certain days of the month), bathing twice a day, tolerance, discrimination between right and wrong, control of the mind, control of the senses, nonviolence, celibacy, charity, reading of scripture, simplicity, satisfaction, rendering service to saintly persons, gradually taking leave of unnecessary engagements, observing the futility of the unnecessary activities of human society, remaining silent and grave and avoiding unnecessary talk, considering whether one is the body or the soul, distributing food equally to all living entities (both men and animals), seeing every soul (especially in the human form) as a part of the Supreme Lord, hearing about the activities and instructions given by the Supreme Personality of Godhead (who is the shelter of the saintly persons), chanting about these activities and instructions, always remembering these activities and instructions, trying to render service, performing worship, offering obeisances, becoming a servant, becoming a friend, and surrendering oneâs whole self. O King Yudhiᚣášhira, these thirty qualifications must be acquired in the human form of life. Simply by acquiring these qualifications, one can satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Perfect Society: Four Social Classes |
| SB 7.11.8-12 |
At that time, the residents of the higher planetary system, namely the demigods, the Gandharvas, the VidyÄdharas, the Siddhas and the CÄraášas, all being very pleased by Bali MahÄrÄjaâs simple, nonduplicitous act, praised his qualities and showered upon him millions of flowers. Bali Maharaja Surrenders the Universe |
| SB 8.20.19 |
In performing his prescribed duties as king, MahÄrÄja Ambarčᚣa always offered the results of his royal activities to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, KášášŁáša, who is the enjoyer of everything and is beyond the perception of material senses. He certainly took advice from brÄhmaášas who were faithful devotees of the Lord, and thus he ruled the planet earth without difficulty. Ambarisha Maharaja Offended by Durvasa Muni |
| SB 9.4.21 |
MahÄrÄja Ambarčᚣa, you have invited me to eat as a guest, but instead of feeding me, you yourself have eaten first. Because of your misbehavior, I shall show you something to punish you. Ambarisha Maharaja Offended by Durvasa Muni |
| SB 9.4.45 |
ĹrÄŤla Ĺukadeva GosvÄmÄŤ continued: Kaášsa agreed to the logical arguments of Vasudeva, and, having full faith in Vasudevaâs words, he refrained from killing his sister. Vasudeva, being pleased with Kaášsa, pacified him further and entered his own house. The Advent of Lord Krishna: Introduction |
| SB 10.1.55 |
Atheistic fools and rascals who are very much proud of wealth fail to see things as they are. Therefore, returning them to poverty is the proper ointment for their eyes so they may see things as they are. At least a poverty-stricken man can realize how painful poverty is, and therefore he will not want others to be in a painful condition like his own. Deliverance of the Yamala-arjuna Trees |
| SB 10.10.13 |
One who has transcended material good and evil automatically acts in accordance with religious injunctions and avoids forbidden activities. The self-realized person does this spontaneously, like an innocent child, and not because he is thinking in terms of material good and evil. Lord Krishna Instructs Uddhava |
| SB 11.7.11 |
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: O Uddhava, a saintly person is merciful and never injures others. Even if others are aggressive he is tolerant and forgiving toward all living entities. His strength and meaning in life come from the truth itself, he is free from all envy and jealousy, and his mind is equal in material happiness and distress. Thus, he dedicates his time to work for the welfare of all others. His intelligence is never bewildered by material desires, and he has controlled his senses. His behavior is always pleasing, never harsh and always exemplary, and he is free from possessiveness. He never endeavors in ordinary, worldly activities, and he strictly controls his eating. He therefore always remains peaceful and steady. A saintly person is thoughtful and accepts Me as his only shelter. Such a person is very cautious in the execution of his duties and is never subject to superficial transformations, because he is steady and noble, even in a distressing situation. He has conquered over the six material qualities â namely hunger, thirst, lamentation, illusion, old age and death. He is free from all desire for prestige and offers honor to others. He is expert in reviving the KášášŁáša consciousness of others and therefore never cheats anyone. Rather, he is a well-wishing friend to all, being most merciful. Such a saintly person must be considered the most learned of men. He perfectly understands that the ordinary religious duties prescribed by Me in various Vedic scriptures possess favorable qualities that purify the performer, and he knows that neglect of such duties constitutes a discrepancy in oneâs life. Having taken complete shelter at My lotus feet, however, a saintly person ultimately renounces such ordinary religious duties and worships Me alone. He is thus considered to be the best among all living entities. The Symptoms of Conditioned and Liberated Living Entities |

â âIn one who has unflinching devotional faith in KášášŁáša, all the good qualities of KášášŁáša and the demigods are consistently manifest. However, he who has no devotion to the Supreme Personality of Godhead has no good qualifications because he is engaged by mental concoction in material existence, which is the external feature of the Lord.â The Process of Devotional Service |

Chapter 11: Service to the Lord Teachings of Lord Caitanya |
| TLC 11 |
There are six principles favorable to the execution of pure devotional service: (1) being enthusiastic, (2) endeavoring with conďŹdence, (3) being patient, (4) acting according to regulative principles [such as Ĺravaášaáš kÄŤrtanaáš viᚣášoḼ smaraášam – hearing, chanting and remembering KášášŁáša], (5) abandoning the association of nondevotees, and (6) following in the footsteps of the previous ÄcÄryas. These six principles undoubtedly assure the complete success of pure devotional service. Nectar of Instruction |
