One has to make progress in spiritual life by not associating with persons who are simply interested in sense gratification and making money. Not only such persons, but one who associates with such persons should be avoided. One should mold his life in such a way that he cannot live in peace without drinking the nectar of the glorification of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari. One can be thus elevated by being disgusted with the taste for sense enjoyment. Prithu Maharaja's Meeting with the Four Kumaras |
| SB 4.22.23 |
Although one may neutralize the reactions of sinful life through austerity, charity, vows and other such methods, these pious activities cannot uproot the material desires in oneâs heart. However, if one serves the lotus feet of the Personality of Godhead, he is immediately freed from all such contaminations. Ajamila Delivered by the Vishnudutas |
| SB 6.2.17 |
ĹrÄŤ Ĺukadeva GosvÄmÄŤ continued: NÄrada, having become the spiritual master of Citraketu, instructed him fully in this prayer because Citraketu was fully surrendered. O King ParÄŤkᚣit, NÄrada then left with the great sage Aáš
girÄ for the topmost planet, known as Brahmaloka. King Citraketu Meets the Supreme Lord |
| SB 6.16.26 |
From the very beginning of his childhood, PrahlÄda MahÄrÄja was uninterested in childish playthings. Indeed, he gave them up altogether and remained silent and dull, being fully absorbed in KášášŁáša consciousness. Since his mind was always affected by KášášŁáša consciousness, he could not understand how the world goes on being fully absorbed in the activities of sense gratification. Hiranyakasipu Terrorizes the Universe |
| SB 7.4.37 |
PrahlÄda MahÄrÄja said: Hearing and chanting about the transcendental holy name, form, qualities, paraphernalia and pastimes of Lord Viᚣášu, remembering them, serving the lotus feet of the Lord, offering the Lord respectful worship with sixteen types of paraphernalia, offering prayers to the Lord, becoming His servant, considering the Lord oneâs best friend, and surrendering everything unto Him (in other words, serving Him with the body, mind and words) â these nine processes are accepted as pure devotional service. One who has dedicated his life to the service of KášášŁáša through these nine methods should be understood to be the most learned person, for he has acquired complete knowledge. Prahlada Maharaja, the Saintly Son of Hiranyakasipu |
| SB 7.5.23-24 |
MahÄrÄja Ambarčᚣa gave up all attachment to household affairs, wives, children, friends and relatives, to the best of powerful elephants, to beautiful chariots, carts, horses and inexhaustible jewels, and to ornaments, garments and an inexhaustible treasury. He gave up attachment to all of them, regarding them as temporary and material. Ambarisha Maharaja Offended by Durvasa Muni |
| SB 9.4.27 |
For those gopÄŤs who could not go to see KášášŁáša, intolerable separation from their beloved caused an intense agony that burned away all impious karma. By meditating upon Him they realized His embrace, and the ecstasy they then felt exhausted their material piety. Although Lord KášášŁáša is the Supreme Soul, these girls simply thought of Him as their male lover and associated with Him in that intimate mood. Thus their karmic bondage was nullified and they abandoned their gross material bodies. Krishna and the Gopis Meet for the Rasa Dance |
| SB 10.29.10-11 |
Amazed upon hearing Bhášguâs account, the sages were freed from all doubts and became convinced that Viᚣášu is the greatest Lord. From Him come peace; fearlessness; the essential principles of religion; detachment with knowledge; the eightfold powers of mystic yoga; and His glorification, which cleanses the mind of all impurities. He is known as the supreme destination for those who are peaceful and equipoised â the selfless, wise saints who have given up all violence. His most dear form is that of pure goodness, and the brÄhmaášas are His worshipable deities. Persons of keen intellect who have attained spiritual peace worship Him without selfish motives. Krishna and Arjuna Retrieve a Brahmana's Sons |
| SB 10.89.14-17 |
âIf one develops his love of Godhead and becomes attached to the lotus feet of KášášŁáša, gradually he loses his attachment to everything else. Lord Caitanya in Five Features |
| CC 1.7.143 |
âIf oneâs heart does not change, tears do not flow from his eyes, his body does not shiver, and his bodily hairs do not stand on end as he chants the Hare KášášŁáša mahÄ-mantra, it should be understood that his heart is as hard as iron. This is due to his offenses at the lotus feet of the Lordâs holy name.â The Author Receives the Orders of Krishna and Guru |
| CC 1.8.25 |
âAccording to the devotee, attachment falls within the five categories of ĹÄnta-rati, dÄsya-rati, sakhya-rati, vÄtsalya-rati and madhura-rati. These five categories arise from devoteesâ different attachments to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The transcendental mellows derived from devotional service are also of five varieties. Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Instructs Srila Rupa Gosvami |
| CC 2.19.183-184 |
âIf the conditioned soul becomes KášášŁáša conscious by the mercy of saintly persons who voluntarily preach scriptural injunctions and help him to become KášášŁáša conscious, the conditioned soul is liberated from the clutches of mÄyÄ, who gives him up. Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Instructs Sanatana Gosvami in the Science of the Absolute Truth |

This is illustrated by the examples of a royal palace, a meal, and so on. A king is not really satisfied just by seeing a palace, nor can someone placate his hunger just by looking at a meal. Narada Bhakti Sutra |
