kÄryam ity eva yat karma niyataá¹ kriyate ’rjuna saá¹…gaá¹ tyaktvÄ phalañ chaiva sa tyÄgaḥ sÄttviko mataḥ [9]

(he) arjuna–O Arjuna; niyatam–obligatory; karma–duties; yat–which; kriyate–are performed; kÄryam iti eva–as a matter of duty; tyaktvÄ–abandoning; saá¹…gam–attachment; phalam eva cha–and fruitive desire; saḥ tyÄgaḥ sÄttvikaḥ–constitute renunciation of the nature of goodness; (me) mataḥ–in My consideration. O Arjuna, performance of obligatory works as a matter of duty while abandoning attachment and fruitive desire, is renunciation of the nature of goodness. This is My opinion.
