tasmai balir vÄruṇa-pÄÅ›a-yantritaḥ
samarhaṇaá¹ nopajahÄra pÅ«rvavat
nanÄma mÅ«rdhnÄÅ›ru-vilola-locanaḥ
sa-vrÄ«á¸a-nÄ«cÄ«na-mukho babhÅ«va ha
tasmai - unto PrahlÄda MahÄrÄja; baliḥ - Bali MahÄrÄja; vÄruṇa-pÄÅ›a-yantritaḥ - being bound by the ropes of Varuṇa; samarhaṇam - befitting respect; na - not; upajahÄra - offered; pÅ«rva-vat - like before; nanÄma - he offered obeisances; mÅ«rdhnÄ - with the head; aÅ›ru-vilola-locanaḥ - eyes inundated with tears; sa-vrÄ«á¸a - with shyness; nÄ«cÄ«na - downward; mukhaḥ - face; babhÅ«va ha - he so became.
Since Bali MahÄrÄja had been arrested by Lord VÄmanadeva, he was certainly to be considered an offender. Bali MahÄrÄja seriously felt that he was an offender to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Certainly PrahlÄda MahÄrÄja would not like this. Therefore Bali MahÄrÄja was ashamed and hung his head.
