vá¹›kÄḥ - foxes; varÄhÄḥ - boars; mahiá¹£a - buffalos; á¹›ká¹£a - bears; Å›alyÄḥ - porcupines; gopuccha - a type of deer; Å›ÄlÄvá¹›ka - wolves; markaá¹Äḥ - monkeys; ca - and; anyatra - elsewhere; ká¹£udrÄḥ - small animals; hariṇÄḥ - deer; Å›aÅ›a-Ädayaḥ - rabbits and others; caranti - roaming (in the forest); abhÄ«tÄḥ - without fear; yat-anugraheṇa - by the mercy of that elephant.
All the animals were practically controlled by this elephant, yet although they could move without fear, because of respect they did not stand before him.
