यदृच्छालाभतुष्टस्य तेजो विप्रस्य वर्धते ।
तत् प्रशाम्यत्यसन्तोषादम्भसेवाशुशुक्षणिः ॥२६॥

tejo viprasya vardhate
tat praÅ›Ämyaty asantoá¹£Äd
ambhasevÄÅ›uÅ›uká¹£aṇiḥ

 yadá¹›cchÄ-lÄbha-tuṣṭasya - who is satisfied by things obtained by the grace of God; tejaḥ - the brilliant effulgence; viprasya - of a brÄhmaṇa; vardhate - increases; tat - that (effulgence); praÅ›Ämyati - is diminished; asantoá¹£Ät - because of dissatisfaction; ambhasÄ - by pouring of water; iva - as; ÄÅ›uÅ›uká¹£aṇiḥ - a fire.


Text

A brÄhmaṇa who is satisfied with whatever is providentially obtained is increasingly enlightened with spiritual power, but the spiritual potency of a dissatisfied brÄhmaṇa decreases, as fire diminishes in potency when water is sprinkled upon it.
