तं ब्राह्मणा भृगवः प्रीयमाणा
अयाजयन्विश्वजिता त्रिणाकम् ।
जिगीषमाणं विधिनाभिषिच्य
महाभिषेकेण महानुभावाः ॥४॥

jigīṣamÄṇaá¹ vidhinÄbhiá¹£icya

 tam - upon him (Bali MahÄrÄja); brÄhmaṇÄḥ - all the brÄhmaṇas; bhá¹›gavaḥ - the descendants of Bhá¹›gu Muni; prÄ«yamÄṇÄḥ - being very pleased; ayÄjayan - engaged him in performing a sacrifice; viÅ›vajitÄ - known as ViÅ›vajit; tri-nÄkam - the heavenly planets; jigīṣamÄṇam - desiring to conquer; vidhinÄ - according to regulative principles; abhiá¹£icya - after purifying; mahÄ-abhiá¹£ekeṇa - by bathing him in a great abhiá¹£eka ceremony; mahÄ-anubhÄvÄḥ - the exalted brÄhmaṇas.

The brÄhmaṇa descendants of Bhá¹›gu Muni were very pleased with Bali MahÄrÄja, who desired to conquer the kingdom of Indra. Therefore, after purifying him and properly bathing him according to regulative principles, they engaged him in performing the yajña known as ViÅ›vajit.
