ततस्तौ राक्षसौ जातौ केशिन्यां विश्रवःसुतौ ।
रावणः कुम्भकर्णश्च सर्वलोकोपतापनौ ॥४४॥

tatas tau rÄká¹£asau jÄtau
keÅ›inyÄá¹ viÅ›ravaḥ-sutau
rÄvaṇaḥ kumbhakarṇaÅ› ca
sarva-lokopatÄpanau

 tataḥ - thereafter; tau - the two doorkeepers (Jaya and Vijaya); rÄká¹£asau - demons; jÄtau - born; keÅ›inyÄm - in the womb of KeÅ›inÄ«; viÅ›ravaḥ-sutau - the sons of ViÅ›ravÄ; rÄvaṇaḥ - RÄvaṇa; kumbhakarṇaḥ - Kumbhakarṇa; ca - and; sarva-loka - to all people; upatÄpanau - giving misery.


Text

Thereafter the same Jaya and Vijaya, the two doorkeepers of Lord Viṣṇu, took birth as RÄvaṇa and Kumbhakarṇa, begotten by ViÅ›ravÄ in the womb of KeÅ›inÄ«. They were extremely troublesome to all the people of the universe.
