ekadÄ dvÄravatyÄá¹ tu
vipra-patnyÄḥ kumÄrakaḥ
jÄta-mÄtro bhuvaá¹ spṛṣṭvÄ
mamÄra kila bhÄrata

 Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; ekadÄ - once; dvÄravatyÄm - in DvÄrakÄ; tu - and; vipra - a brÄhmaṇa's; patnyÄḥ - of the wife; kumÄrakaḥ - the infant son; jÄta - born; mÄtraḥ - only; bhuvam - the ground; spṛṣṭvÄ - touching; mamÄra - died; kila - indeed; bhÄrata - O descendant of Bharata (ParÄ«ká¹£it MahÄrÄja).

Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said: Once, in DvÄrakÄ, a brÄhmaṇa’s wife gave birth to a son, but the newborn infant died as soon as he touched the ground, O BhÄrata.

Purport

In this chapter Lord Viṣṇu has been glorified as the Supreme Godhead. Now Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« is going to identify Lord Kṛṣṇa with that same Personality of Godhead by describing another pastime of His, one which highlighted His unequaled, divine characteristics.
