tad-uktam ity upÄkarṇya
bhagavÄn praṇatÄrti-hÄ
gá¹›hÄ«tvÄ pÄṇinÄ pÄṇiá¹
prahasaá¹s tam uvÄca ha
Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - ÅšrÄ« Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; tat - by him (Åšrutadeva); uktam - what was spoken; iti - thus; upÄkarṇya - hearing; bhagavÄn - the Supreme Lord; praṇata - of the surrendered; Ärti - of distress; hÄ - the destroyer; gá¹›hÄ«tvÄ - taking; pÄṇinÄ - with His hand; pÄṇim - his hand; prahasan - smiling broadly; tam - to him; uvÄca ha - said.
ÅšrÄ« Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said: After hearing Åšrutadeva speak these words, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who relieves His surrendered devotees’ distress, took Åšrutadeva’s hand in His own and, smiling, spoke to him as follows.
Ä€cÄrya ViÅ›vanÄtha comments that Lord Kṛṣṇa took Åšrutadeva’s hand and smiled as a gesture of friendship, to tell Him, “Yes, you know the truth about Me, and I also know all about you. So now I will tell you something special.â€
