iti khara-pavana-cakra-pÄmÅ›u-vará¹£e
suta-padavÄ«m abalÄvilaká¹£ya mÄtÄ
atikaruṇam anusmaranty aśocad
bhuvi patitÄ má¹›ta-vatsakÄ yathÄ gauḥ

 iti - thus; khara - very strong; pavana-cakra - by a whirlwind; pÄmÅ›u-vará¹£e - when there were showers of dust and small dust particles; suta-padavÄ«m - the place of her son; abalÄ - the innocent woman; avilaká¹£ya - not seeing; mÄtÄ - because of being His mother; ati-karuṇam - very pitifully; anusmarantÄ« - she was thinking of her son; aÅ›ocat - lamented extraordinarily; bhuvi - on the ground; patitÄ - fell down; má¹›ta-vatsakÄ - who has lost her calf; yathÄ - like; gauḥ - a cow.

Because of the dust storm stirred up by the strong whirlwind, mother YaÅ›odÄ could find no trace of her son, nor could she understand why. Thus she fell down on the ground like a cow who has lost her calf and began to lament very pitifully.
