tasmai varam adÄd vibhuḥ
pitá¹›-hantá¹›-vadhopÄyaá¹
sa vavre varam īpsitam

 prÄ«taḥ - satisfied; avimukte - at Avimukta, an especially holy area within the district of KÄśī; bhagavÄn - Lord Åšiva; tasmai - to him; varam - a choice of benedictions; adÄt - gave; vibhuḥ - the powerful demigod; pitá¹› - of his father; hantá¹› - the killer; vadha - to slay; upÄyam - the means; saḥ - he; vavre - chose; varam - as his benediction; Ä«psitam - desired.

Satisfied by the worship, the powerful Lord Śiva appeared in the sacred precinct of Avimukta and offered Sudakṣiṇa his choice of benedictions. The prince chose as his benediction a means to slay his father’s killer.
