sÄnujo jagad-Ä«Å›varaḥ
ity ÄropyÄá¹…kam Äliá¹…gya
netraiḥ siṣicatur jalaiḥ
ciram - for a long time; naḥ - us; pÄhi - please protect; dÄÅ›Ärha - O descendant of DaÅ›Ärha; sa - together with; anujaḥ - Your younger brother; jagat - of the universe; Ä«Å›varaḥ - the Lord; iti - thus saying; Äropya - raising; aá¹…kam - onto their laps; Äliá¹…gya - embracing; netraiḥ - from their eyes; siá¹£icatuḥ - they moistened; jalaiḥ - with the water.
[Nanda and YaÅ›odÄ prayed,] “O descendant of DaÅ›Ärha, O Lord of the universe, may You and Your younger brother Kṛṣṇa ever protect us.†Saying this, they raised ÅšrÄ« BalarÄma onto their laps, embraced Him and moistened Him with tears from their eyes.
ÅšrÄ«la JÄ«va GosvÄmÄ« comments on this verse as follows: “Nanda and YaÅ›odÄ prayed to ÅšrÄ« BalarÄma, ‘May You, along with Your younger brother, protect us.’ Thus they expressed their respect for the fact that He is the elder brother, and they also showed how much they considered Him their own son.â€
