 tat - that; Å›rutvÄ - hearing; kupitaḥ - angered; rÄjan - 0 King; bhagavÄn - the powerful Garuá¸a; bhagavat-priyaḥ - the dear devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead; vijighÄá¹suḥ - desiring to kill; mahÄ-vegaḥ - the greatly swift; kÄliyam - to KÄliya; samupÄdravat - he rushed.

O King, the greatly powerful Garuá¸a, who is very dear to the Supreme Lord, became angry when he heard of this. Desiring to kill KÄliya, he rushed toward the serpent with tremendous speed.

Purport

ÅšrÄ«la SanÄtana GosvÄmÄ« explains that the word mahÄ-vega indicates that the great speed of Garuá¸a cannot be checked by anyone.
