aho batÄsya bÄlasya
bahavo má¹›tyavo 'bhavan
apy ÄsÄ«d vipriyaá¹ teá¹£Äá¹
kṛtaṠpūrvaṠyato bhayam
aho bata - it is very astonishing; asya - of this; bÄlasya - Kṛṣṇa; bahavaḥ - many, many; má¹›tyavaḥ - causes of death; abhavan - appeared; api - still; ÄsÄ«t - there was; vipriyam - the cause of death; teá¹£Äm - of them; ká¹›tam - done; pÅ«rvam - formerly; yataḥ - from which; bhayam - there was fear of death.
The cowherd men innocently thought, “Because our Kṛṣṇa is innocent, the causes of death that appeared before Him were themselves killed instead of Kṛṣṇa. This is the greatest grace of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.â€
