Purport

ÅšrÄ« Veá¹…kaá¹a Bhaá¹á¹a was a Vaiṣṇava brÄhmaṇa and an inhabitant of ÅšrÄ« Raá¹…ga-ká¹£etra. He belonged to the disciplic succession of ÅšrÄ« RÄmÄnujÄcÄrya. ÅšrÄ« Raá¹…ga is one of the places of pilgrimage in the province of Tamil Nadu. The inhabitants of that province do not retain the name Veá¹…kaá¹a. It is therefore supposed that Veá¹…kaá¹a Bhaá¹á¹a did not belong to that province, although he may have been residing there for a very long time. Veá¹…kaá¹a Bhaá¹á¹a was in a branch of the RÄmÄnuja-sampradÄya known as Vaá¸agalai. He had a brother in the RÄmÄnuja-sampradÄya known as ÅšrÄ«pÄda PrabodhÄnanda SarasvatÄ«. The son of Veá¹…kaá¹a Bhaá¹á¹a was later known in the Gauá¸Ä«ya-sampradÄya as GopÄla Bhaá¹á¹a GosvÄmÄ«, and he established the RÄdhÄramaṇa temple in Vá¹›ndÄvana. More information about him may be found in a book known as the Bhakti-ratnÄkara, by Narahari CakravartÄ«.
