vipra-sabhÄya Å›une tÄá¹…hÄ kÅ«rma-purÄṇa
tÄra madhye ÄilÄ pativratÄ-upÄkhyÄna
vipra-sabhÄya - among the assembly of brÄhmaṇas; Å›une - hears; tÄá¹…hÄ - there; kÅ«rma-purÄṇa - the KÅ«rma PurÄṇa; tÄra madhye - within that book; ÄilÄ - there was; pati-vratÄ - of the chaste woman; upÄkhyÄna - narration.
There, among the brÄhmaṇas, ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu listened to the KÅ«rma PurÄṇa, wherein is mentioned the chaste woman’s narration.
ÅšrÄ«la BhaktisiddhÄnta SarasvatÄ« ṬhÄkura remarks that only two khaṇá¸as of the KÅ«rma PurÄṇa are now available, namely the PÅ«rva-khaṇá¸a and Uttara-khaṇá¸a. Sometimes it is said that the KÅ«rma PurÄṇa contains six thousand verses, but according to ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam the original KÅ«rma PurÄṇa contains seventeen thousand verses. It is considered the fifteenth of the the eighteen MahÄ-purÄṇas.
