viṣṇos tu trīṇi rÅ«pÄṇi
puruá¹£ÄkhyÄny atho viduḥ
ekaṠtu mahataḥ sraṣṭṛ
dvitÄ«yaá¹ tv aṇá¸a-saá¹sthitam
tá¹›tÄ«yaá¹ sarva-bhÅ«ta-sthaá¹
tÄni jñÄtvÄ vimucyate

 viṣṇoḥ - of Lord Viṣṇu; tu - certainly; trīṇi - three; rÅ«pÄṇi - forms; puruá¹£a-ÄkhyÄni - celebrated as the puruá¹£as; atho - how; viduḥ - they know; ekam - one of them; tu - but; mahataḥ sraṣṭṛ - the creator of the total material energy; dvitÄ«yam - the second; tu - but; aṇá¸a-saá¹sthitam - situated within the universe; tá¹›tÄ«yam - the third; sarva-bhÅ«ta-stham - within the hearts of all living entities; tÄni - these three; jñÄtvÄ - knowing; vimucyate - one becomes liberated.

“ ‘Viṣṇu has three forms called puruá¹£as. The first, MahÄ-Viṣṇu, is the creator of the total material energy [mahat], the second is GarbhodaÅ›ÄyÄ«, who is situated within each universe, and the third is KṣīrodaÅ›ÄyÄ«, who lives in the heart of every living being. He who knows these three becomes liberated from the clutches of mÄyÄ.’
