tapasvibhyo ’dhiko yogÄ« jñÄnibhyo ’pi mato ’dhikaḥ karmibhyaÅ› chÄdhiko yogÄ« tasmÄd yogÄ« bhavÄrjuna [46]

  1. yogī–The yogÄ«; adhikaḥ–is superior; tapasvibhyaḥ–to the performer of severe austerities (such as ChÄndrÄyaṇ); adhikaḥ api–and is also superior; jñÄnibhyaḥ–to the jñÄnÄ«, the person of knowledge. yogī–The yogÄ«; adhikaḥ cha–is also superior; karmibhyaḥ–to the karmÄ«, person of action; (iti me)–this is My; tasmÄt–Therefore; (he) arjuna–O Arjuna; (tvam)–you; bhava–be; yogī–a yogÄ«. [46]


Text

The yogÄ« is superior to persons engaged in severe austerities (such as the ChÄndrÄyaṇ vow), superior to the person of knowledge who worships Brahma, and superior to the person of action. Know this to be My conclusion. Therefore, O Arjuna, be a yogÄ«.
