arjuna uvÄcha ye Å›Ästra-vidhim utsá¹›jya yajante Å›raddhayÄnvitÄḥ teá¹£Äá¹ niṣṭhÄ tu kÄ kṛṣṇa sattvam Äho rajas tamaḥ [1]

arjunaḥ uvÄcha–Arjuna said: (he) kṛṣṇa–O Kṛṣṇa; kÄ–what; niṣṭhÄ–is the position; teá¹£Äm–of those; ye–who; utsá¹›jya–ignore; Å›Ästravidhim–the scriptural injunctions; tu–yet; sraddhayÄ-anvitÄḥ (santaḥ)–faithfully; yajante–worship? (sa kim)–Is that; sattvam–in goodness; Äho rajaḥ–or passion; (uta) tamaḥ–or ignorance? [1]

Arjuna inquired: O Kṛṣṇa, what is the position of those who worship with faith, but ignore the injunctions of the scriptures? Is their faith in the mode of goodness, passion, or ignorance?
