Ätma-trÄṇaá¹ dvijÄtmajaḥ
He saw that he had no protector (asaranam). He considered that the brahmastra would be a method of protecting himself (atma-tranam). The word dvijatmajah (son of a brahmana) indicates that he was short-sighted.
