तस्य मत्तस्य नश्यन्ति कीर्तिरायुर्भगो गतिः ॥१०॥
एष राज्ञां परो धर्मो ह्यार्तानामार्तिनिग्रहः ।
अत एनं वधिष्यामि भूतद्रुहमसत्तमम् ॥११॥
yasya rÄá¹£á¹re prajÄḥ sarvÄs
trasyante sÄdhvy asÄdhubhiḥ
tasya mattasya naśyanti
kÄ«rtir Äyur bhago gatiḥ
eá¹£a rÄjñÄá¹ paro dharmo
hy ÄrtÄnÄm Ärti-nigrahaḥ
ata enaá¹ vadhiá¹£yÄmi
bhūta-druham asattamam
O cow! The inattentive ruler in whose state all the citizens suffer from criminals loses his fame, lifespan, fortune and progress. This is the highest duty of the kings, to punish those who cause suffering to others. Therefore I will kill that sinful killer.
“But if you kill him because of us, then we become implicated in killing. Do not do that.†He replies. “I must kill him for my benefit. It is not because of your request.â€
