śuńgaḿ hatvā devabhūtiḿ
kāṇvo 'mātyas tu kāminam
svayaḿ kariṣyate rājyaḿ
vasudevo mahā-matiḥ
sungam -- the Sunga king; hatva -- killing; devabhutim -- Devabhuti; kanvah -- the member of the Kanva family; amatyah -- his minister; tu -- but; kaminam -- lusty; svayam -- himself; karishyate -- will execute; rajyam -- the rulership; vasudevah -- named Vasudeva; maha-matih -- very intelligent.
Apparently, because King Devabhuti was lusty after the wives of other men, his minister killed him, assuming leadership and thus beginning the Kanva dynasty.
