pitrā sampūjitāḥ sarve
yathā-vīryaḿ yathā-vayaḥ
ādaduḥ sa-śaraḿ cāpaḿ
veddhuḿ parṣadi mad-dhiyaḥ
pitra -- by my father; sampujitah -- fully honored; sarve -- all of them; yatha -- according to; viryam -- strength; yatha -- according to; vayah -- age; adaduh -- they took up; sa -- with; saram -- arrows; capam -- the bow; veddhum -- to pierce (the target); parshadi -- in the assembly; mat -- (fixed) upon me; dhiyah -- whose minds.
According to the acaryas, only those kings who were extremely intent on winning the hand of the princess even dared try to shoot the target.
