sarvāḿś ca suhṛdo 'vyayam
sri-sukah uvaca -- Sukadeva Gosvami said; tatha -- in this way; anugrihya -- showing favor; bhagavan -- the Supreme Lord; gopinam -- of the young cowherd women; sah -- He; guruh -- their spiritual master; gatih -- and goal; yudhishthiram -- from Yudhishthira; atha -- then; apricchat -- He inquired; sarvan -- all; ca -- and; su-hridah -- His well-wishing relatives; avyayam -- welfare.
The words gurur gatih have been translated here in their usual sense: "spiritual master and goal." Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti, however, points out an additional meaning: While Lord Krishna is the goal for all sadhus in general, for the gopis specifically He is that goal which is guru, "predominant," in the sense of completely eclipsing the significance of all other possible goals.
