इति प्रभाष्य पानीयं म्रियमाणः पिपासया ।
पुल्कसायाददाद्धीरो निसर्गकरुणो नृपः ॥१४॥

mriyamÄṇaḥ pipÄsayÄ
pulkasÄyÄdadÄd dhÄ«ro
nisarga-karuṇo nṛpaḥ

 iti - thus; prabhÄá¹£ya - giving his statement; pÄnÄ«yam - drinking water; mriyamÄṇaḥ - although on the verge of death; pipÄsayÄ - because of thirst; pulkasÄya - unto the low-class caṇá¸Äla; adadÄt - delivered; dhÄ«raḥ - sober; nisarga-karuṇaḥ - by nature very kind; ná¹›paḥ - the King.

Having spoken thus, King Rantideva, although on the verge of death because of thirst, gave his own portion of water to the caṇá¸Äla without hesitation, for the King was naturally very kind and sober.
