पदानि त्रीणि दत्तानि भूमेर्मह्यं त्वयासुर ।
द्वाभ्यां क्रान्ता मही सर्वा तृतीयमुपकल्पय ॥२९॥

padÄni trīṇi dattÄni
bhÅ«mer mahyaá¹ tvayÄsura
dvÄbhyÄá¹ krÄntÄ mahÄ« sarvÄ
tṛtīyam upakalpaya

 padÄni - footsteps; trīṇi - three; dattÄni - have been given; bhÅ«meḥ - of land; mahyam - unto Me; tvayÄ - by you; asura - O King of the demons; dvÄbhyÄm - by two steps; krÄntÄ - have been occupied; mahÄ« - all the land; sarvÄ - completely; tá¹›tÄ«yam - for the third step; upakalpaya - now find the means.

O King of the demons, you have promised to give Me three steps of land, but I have occupied the entire universe with two steps. Now think about where I should put My third.
