तस्य मूर्ध्नः समुद्भूतः सधूमोऽग्निस्तपोमयः ।
तीर्यगूर्ध्वमधो लोकान् प्रातपद्विष्वगीरितः ॥४॥

tasya mūrdhnaḥ samudbhūtaḥ
sadhūmo 'gnis tapomayaḥ
tÄ«ryag Å«rdhvam adho lokÄn
prÄtapad viá¹£vag Ä«ritaḥ

 tasya - his; mÅ«rdhnaḥ - from the head; samudbhÅ«taḥ - generated; sa-dhÅ«maḥ - with smoke; agniḥ - fire; tapaḥ-mayaḥ - because of severe austerities; tÄ«ryak - sideways; Å«rdhvam - upward; adhaḥ - downward; lokÄn - all the planets; prÄtapat - heated; viá¹£vak - all around; Ä«ritaḥ - spreading.

Because of Hiraṇyakaśipu’s severe austerities, fire came from his head, and this fire and its smoke spread throughout the sky, encompassing the upper and lower planets, which all became extremely hot.
