श्रोष्यत्यात्माश्रिता गाथाः पृथुः पृथुपराक्रमः ॥२६॥

iti viśruta-vikramaḥ
Å›roá¹£yaty ÄtmÄÅ›ritÄ gÄthÄḥ
pá¹›thuḥ pá¹›thu-parÄkramaḥ
tatra tatra - here and there; giraḥ - words; tÄḥ tÄḥ - many, various; iti - thus; viÅ›ruta-vikramaḥ - he whose chivalrous activities are widely reputed; Å›roá¹£yati - will hear; Ätma-ÄÅ›ritÄḥ - about himself; gÄthÄḥ - songs, narrations; pá¹›thuḥ - King Pá¹›thu; pá¹›thu-parÄkramaḥ - distinctly powerful.
In this way, when the chivalrous activities of King Pá¹›thu come to be known to the people in general, King Pá¹›thu will always hear about himself and his uniquely powerful activities.
To artificially advertise oneself and thus enjoy a so-called reputation is a kind of conceit. Pá¹›thu MahÄrÄja was famous amongst the people because of his chivalrous activities. He did not have to advertise himself artificially. One’s factual reputation cannot be covered.
