sadá¹›ká¹£Äya gata-vyathaḥ
upaguhya ca bÄhubhyÄm
autkaṇá¹hyonmathitÄÅ›ayaḥ
prattÄm - who was given; duhitaram - daughter; samrÄá¹ - the Emperor (Manu); sadá¹›ká¹£Äya - unto a suitable person; gata-vyathaḥ - relieved of his responsibility; upaguhya - embracing; ca - and; bÄhubhyÄm - with his two arms; autkaṇá¹hya-unmathita-ÄÅ›ayaḥ - having an anxious and agitated mind.
A father always remains in anxiety until he can hand over his grownup daughter to a suitable boy. A father and mother’s responsibility for children continues until they marry them to suitable spouses; when the father is able to perform that duty, he is relieved of his responsibility.
