sÅ«ta uvÄca
ity uktaḥ sa tathety Äha
mahará¹£er mÄnayan vacaḥ
sarpa-satrÄd uparataḥ
pÅ«jayÄm Äsa vÄk-patim

 sÅ«taḥ uvÄca - SÅ«ta GosvÄmÄ« said; iti - thus; uktaḥ - addressed; saḥ - he (Janamejaya); tathÄ iti - so be it; Äha - he said; mahÄ-ṛṣeḥ - of the great sage; mÄnayan - honoring; vacaḥ - the words; sarpa-satrÄt - from the snake sacrifice; uparataḥ - ceasing; pÅ«jayÄm Äsa - he worshiped; vÄk-patim - Bá¹›haspati, the master of eloquence.

SÅ«ta GosvÄmÄ« continued: Advised in this manner, MahÄrÄja Janamejaya replied, “So be it.†Honoring the words of the great sage, he desisted from performing the snake sacrifice and worshiped Bá¹›haspati, the most eloquent of sages.
