Å›rÄ«-bhagavÄn uvÄca
ahiá¹sÄ satyam asteyam
asaṅgo hrīr asañcayaḥ
Ästikyaá¹ brahmacaryaá¹ ca
maunaá¹ sthairyaá¹ ká¹£amÄbhayam
śaucaṠjapas tapo homaḥ
Å›raddhÄtithyaá¹ mad-arcanam
tÄ«rthÄá¹anaá¹ parÄrthehÄ
tuá¹£á¹ir ÄcÄrya-sevanam
ete yamÄḥ sa-niyamÄ
ubhayor dvÄdaÅ›a smá¹›tÄḥ
puá¹sÄm upÄsitÄs tÄta
yathÄ-kÄmaá¹ duhanti hi
Å›rÄ«-bhagavÄn uvÄca - the Supreme Personality of Godhead said; ahiá¹sÄ - nonviolence; satyam - truthfulness; asteyam - never coveting or stealing the property of others; asaá¹…gaḥ - detachment; hrīḥ - humility; asañcayaḥ - being nonpossessive; Ästikyam - trust in the principles of religion; brahmacaryam - celibacy; ca - also; maunam - silence; sthairyam - steadiness; ká¹£amÄ - forgiving; abhayam - fearless; Å›aucam - internal and external cleanliness; japaḥ - chanting the holy names of the Lord; tapaḥ - austerity; homaḥ - sacrifice; Å›raddhÄ - faith; Ätithyam - hospitality; mat-arcanam - worship of Me; tÄ«rtha-aá¹anam - visiting holy places; para-artha-Ä«ha - acting and desiring for the Supreme; tuá¹£á¹iḥ - satisfaction; ÄcÄrya-sevanam - serving the spiritual master; ete - these; yamÄḥ - disciplinary principles; sa-niyamÄḥ - along with secondary regular duties; ubhayoḥ - of each; dvÄdaÅ›a - twelve; smá¹›tÄḥ - are understood; puá¹sÄm - by human beings; upÄsitÄḥ - being cultivated with devotion; tÄta - My dear Uddhava; yathÄ-kÄmam - according to one's desire; duhanti - they supply; hi - indeed.
