niá¹£eddhuá¹ pathi kecana
saá¹yattÄ uddhá¹›teá¹£v-ÄsÄ
grÄma-siá¹hÄ yathÄ harim

 te - they; anvasajjanta - followed from behind; rÄjanyÄḥ - the kings; niá¹£eddhum - to check Him; pathi - on the path; kecana - some of them; saá¹yattÄḥ - ready; uddhá¹›ta - raised; iá¹£u-ÄsÄḥ - whose bows; grÄma-siá¹hÄ - 'lions of the village' (dogs); yathÄ - as; harim - a lion.

The kings pursued the Lord like village dogs chasing a lion. Some kings, raising their bows, stationed themselves on the road to stop Him as He passed by.
