purÄnena vraja-pate
sÄdhavo dasyu-pÄ«á¸itÄḥ
arÄjake raká¹£yamÄṇÄ
jigyur dasyÅ«n samedhitÄḥ
purÄ - formerly; anena - by Kṛṣṇa; vraja-pate - O King of Vraja; sÄdhavaḥ - those who were honest; dasyu-pÄ«á¸itÄḥ - being disturbed by rogues and thieves; arÄjake - when there was an irregular government; raká¹£yamÄṇÄḥ - were protected; jigyuḥ - conquered; dasyÅ«n - the rogues and thieves; samedhitÄḥ - flourished.
O Nanda MahÄrÄja, as recorded in history, when there was an irregular, incapable government, Indra having been dethroned, and people were being harassed and disturbed by thieves, this child appeared in order to protect the people and enable them to flourish, and He curbed the rogues and thieves.
Indra is the king of the universe. Demons, thieves and rogues always disturb Indra (indrÄri-vyÄkulaá¹ lokam), but when indrÄris, the enemies of Indra, become prominent, Kṛṣṇa appears. Kṛṣṇas tu bhagavÄn svayaá¹/ indrÄri-vyÄkulaá¹ lokaá¹ má¹›á¸ayanti yuge yuge (BhÄg. 1.3.28).
