apratyutthÄyinam - who had failed to stand up; sÅ«tam - the son of a mixed marriage between a ká¹£atriya father and brÄhmaṇa mother; aká¹›ta - who had not done; prahvaṇa - bowing down; añjalim - and joining of palms; adhyÄsÄ«nam - sitting higher; ca - and; tÄn - than those; viprÄn - learned brÄhmaṇas; cukopa - became angry; udvÄ«ká¹£ya - seeing; mÄdhavaḥ - Lord BalarÄma.
Romahará¹£aṇa had failed to greet Lord BalarÄma in any of the standard ways for welcoming a superior personality. Also, despite being of a lower caste, he sat in a seat above the assembly of exalted brÄhmaṇas.
