Å›rÄ«-uddhava uvÄca
yad uktam ṛṣinÄ deva
sÄcivyaá¹ yaká¹£yatas tvayÄ
kÄryaá¹ paitá¹›-á¹£vasreyasya
raká¹£Ä ca Å›araṇaiá¹£iṇÄm
Å›rÄ«-uddhavaḥ uvÄca - ÅšrÄ« Uddhava said; yat - what; uktam - was stated; ṛṣinÄ - by the sage (NÄrada); deva - O Lord; sÄcivyam - assistance; yaká¹£yataḥ - to him who intends to perform sacrifice (Yudhiá¹£á¹hira); tvayÄ - by You; kÄryam - should be rendered; paitá¹›-á¹£vasreyasya - to Your father's sister's son; raká¹£Ä - protection; ca - also; Å›araṇa - shelter; eá¹£iṇÄm - for those who desire.
ÅšrÄ« Uddhava said: O Lord, as the sage advised, You should help Your cousin fulfill his plan for performing the RÄjasÅ«ya sacrifice, and You should also protect the kings who are begging for Your shelter.
Devará¹£i NÄrada wanted Lord Kṛṣṇa to go to Indraprastha and help His cousin Yudhiá¹£á¹hira perform the RÄjasÅ«ya sacrifice. At the same time, the members of the royal assembly strongly desired that He defeat JarÄsandha and rescue the kings he was holding prisoner. The great-minded Uddhava could understand that Lord Kṛṣṇa desired to do both things, and thus he intelligently advised how both these purposes could be simultaneously accomplished.
