kÄmam - as pleased Him; vihá¹›tya - having played; salilÄt - from the water; uttÄ«rṇÄya - to Him who had risen; asita - blue; ambare - a pair of garments (upper and lower); bhūṣaṇÄni - ornaments; mahÄ - greatly; arhÄṇi - valuable; dadau - gave; kÄntiḥ - Goddess KÄnti; Å›ubhÄm - splendidly beautiful; srajam - a necklace.
ÅšrÄ«la ÅšrÄ«dhara SvÄmÄ« quotes from the Viṣṇu PurÄṇa to show that the goddess KÄnti mentioned here is actually Laká¹£mÄ«, the goddess of fortune:
varuṇa-prahitÄ cÄsmai
mÄlÄm amlÄna-paá¹…kajÄm
samudrÄbhe tathÄ vastre
nīle lakṣmīr ayacchata
“Sent by Varuna, Goddess Laká¹£mÄ« then presented Him with a garland of unfading lotuses and a pair of garments colored blue like the ocean.â€
The great BhÄgavatam commentator ÅšrÄ«la ÅšrÄ«dhara SvÄmÄ« also quotes the following statement from ÅšrÄ« Hari-vaá¹Å›a, spoken by Goddess Laká¹£mÄ« to Lord BalarÄma:
jÄtarÅ«pa-mayaá¹ caikaá¹
kuṇá¸alaá¹ vajra-bhūṣaṇam
Ädi-padmaá¹ ca padmÄkhyaá¹
divyaṠśravaṇa-bhūṣaṇam
devemÄá¹ pratigá¹›hṇīṣva
paurÄṇīṠbhūṣaṇa-kriyÄm
“O Lord, please accept as divine ornaments for Your ears this single gold earring studded with diamonds and this primeval lotus called Padma. Kindly accept them, for this act of adornment is traditional.â€
ÅšrÄ«la ViÅ›vanÄtha CakravartÄ« further points out that Goddess Laká¹£mÄ« is the consort of the Lord’s plenary expansion Saá¹…kará¹£aṇa who belongs to the second vyÅ«ha.
