sa rÄjyam akarot purÄ
tasya Å›ambhoḥ prasÄdena

sahasra-bÄhur vÄdyena

Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; bÄṇaḥ - BÄṇa; putra - of sons; Å›ata - one hundred; jyeá¹£á¹haḥ - the oldest; baleḥ - of MahÄrÄja Bali; ÄsÄ«t - was; mahÄ-Ätmanaḥ - of the great soul; yena - by whom (Bali); vÄmana-rÅ«pÄya - in the form of the dwarf, VÄmanadeva; haraye - to the Supreme Lord Hari; adÄyi - was given; medinÄ« - the earth; tasya - his; aurasaḥ - from the semen; sutaḥ - the son; bÄṇaḥ - BÄṇa; Å›iva-bhakti - in devotion for Lord Åšiva; rataḥ - fixed; sada - always; mÄnyaḥ - respectable; vadÄnyaḥ - magnanimous; dhÄ«-man - intelligent; ca - and; satya-sandhaḥ - truthful; dá¹›á¸ha-vrataḥ - firm in his vows; Å›oṇita-Äkhye - known as Åšoṇita; pure - in the city; ramye - charming; saḥ - he; rÄjyam akarot - made his kingdom; purÄ - in the past; tasya - upon him; Å›ambhoḥ - of Lord Åšambhu (Åšiva); prasÄdena - by the pleasure; kinkarÄḥ - servants; iva - as if; te - they; amarÄḥ - the demigods; sahasra - one thousand; bÄhuḥ - having arms; vÄdyena - with the playing of musical instruments; tÄṇá¸ave - while he (Lord Åšiva) was dancing his tÄṇá¸ava-ná¹›tya; atoá¹£ayat - he satisfied; má¹›á¸am - Lord Åšiva.
