bhīṣmaá¹ ká¹›paá¹ sa viduraá¹
gÄndhÄrīṠdroṇam eva ca
tulya-duḥkhau ca saṅgamya
hÄ kaṣṭam iti hocatuḥ

 bhīṣmam - Bhīṣma; ká¹›pam - Ä€cÄrya Ká¹›pa; sa-viduram - and also Vidura; gÄndhÄrÄ«m - GÄndhÄrÄ«, the wife of Dhá¹›tarÄṣṭra; droṇam - Ä€cÄrya Droṇa; eva ca - as well; tulya - equally; duḥkhau - sorrowful; ca - and; saá¹…gamya - meeting with;  - alas; kaṣṭam - how painful; iti - thus; ha Å«catuḥ - They spoke.


Text

The two Lords met with Bhīṣma, Ká¹›pa, Vidura, GÄndhÄrÄ« and Droṇa. Showing sorrow equal to theirs, They cried out, “Alas, how painful this is!â€

Purport

ÅšrÄ«la ÅšrÄ«dhara SvÄmÄ« points out that those who were involved in the assassination attempt were of course not at all sorry to hear of the PÄṇá¸avas’ death. The persons specifically mentioned here, however — Bhīṣma, Ká¹›pa, Vidura, GÄndhÄrÄ« and Droṇa — were actually unhappy to hear of the supposed tragedy.
