 tam - Him, Kṛṣṇa; ÄviÅ›antam - entering (into his private sitting area); Älokya - seeing; má¹›tyum - death; Ätmanaḥ - his own; ÄsanÄt - from his seat; manasvÄ« - the intelligent; sahasÄ - immediately; utthÄya - standing up; jagá¹›he - took up; saḥ - he; asi - his sword; carmaṇī - and his shield.

Seeing Lord Kṛṣṇa approaching like death personified, the quick-witted Kaá¹sa instantly rose from his seat and took up his sword and shield.
