punaḥ pulinam Ägatya
kÄlindyÄḥ kṛṣṇa-bhÄvanÄḥ
samavetÄ jaguḥ kṛṣṇaá¹
tad-Ägamana-kÄá¹…ká¹£itÄḥ

 punaḥ - again; pulinam - to the bank; Ägatya - coming; kÄlindyÄḥ - of the river YamunÄ; kṛṣṇa-bhÄvanÄḥ - meditating on Kṛṣṇa; samavetÄḥ - joined together; jaguḥ - they sang; kṛṣṇam - about Kṛṣṇa; tat-Ägamana - His arrival; kÄá¹…ká¹£itÄḥ - eagerly desired.


Text

The gopÄ«s again came to the bank of the KÄlindÄ«. Meditating on Kṛṣṇa and eagerly hoping He would come, they sat down together to sing of Him.

Purport

As stated in the Kaṭha Upaniṣad (1.2.23), yam evaiṣa vṛṇute tena labhyaḥ: “The Supersoul can be realized by that person whom He chooses.†Thus the gopīs fervently pray that Kṛṣṇa come back to them.
