Å›anaiḥ Å›anair jahuḥ paá¹…kaá¹
sthalÄny Ämaá¹ ca vÄ«rudhaḥ
yathÄhaá¹-mamatÄá¹ dhÄ«rÄḥ
Å›arÄ«rÄdiá¹£v anÄtmasu
Å›anaiḥ Å›anaiḥ - very gradually; jahuḥ - gave up; paá¹…kam - their mud; sthalÄni - the places of land; Ämam - their unripe condition; ca - and; vÄ«rudhaḥ - the plants; yathÄ - as; aham-mamatÄm - egotism and possessiveness; dhÄ«rÄḥ - sober sages; Å›arÄ«ra-Ädiá¹£u - focused upon the material body and other external objects; anÄtmasu - which are completely distinct from the real self.
The word Ädiá¹£u in this verse indicates the by-products of the body, such as children, home and wealth.
