vá¹›ndÄvanam - the sacred place by the name Vá¹›ndÄvana; sampraviÅ›ya - after entering; sarva-kÄla-sukha-Ävaham - where in all seasons it is pleasing to live; tatra - there; cakruḥ - they made; vraja-ÄvÄsam - inhabitation of Vraja; Å›akaá¹aiḥ - by the bullock carts; ardha-candravat - making a semicircle like a half moon.
As stated in the Viṣṇu PurÄṇa:
Å›akaá¹Ä«-vÄá¹a-paryantaÅ›
candrÄrdha-kÄra-saá¹sthite
And as stated in the Hari-vaá¹Å›a:
kaṇá¹akÄ«bhiḥ pravá¹›ddhÄbhis
tathÄ kaṇá¹akÄ«bhir drumaiḥ
nikhÄtocchrita-Å›ÄkhÄbhir
abhiguptaṠsamantataḥ
There was no need to make fences all around. One side was already defended by thorn trees, and thus the thorn trees, the bullock carts and the animals encircled the inhabitants in their temporary residence.
