tatropÄnanda-nÄmÄha
gopo jñÄna-vayo-'dhikaḥ
deÅ›a-kÄlÄrtha-tattva-jñaḥ
priya-ká¹›d rÄma-kṛṣṇayoḥ

 tatra - in the assembly; upÄnanda-nÄmÄ - by the name UpÄnanda (the elder brother of Nanda MahÄrÄja); Äha - said; gopaḥ - the cowherd man; jñÄna-vayaḥ-adhikaḥ - who by knowledge and by age was the eldest of all; deÅ›a-kÄla-artha-tattva-jñaḥ - very experienced according to time, place and circumstances; priya-ká¹›t - just for the benefit; rÄma-kṛṣṇayoḥ - of BalarÄma and Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personalities of Godhead.

At this meeting of all the inhabitants of Gokula, a cowherd man named Upananda, who was the most mature in age and knowledge and was very experienced according to time, circumstances and country, made this suggestion for the benefit of RÄma and Kṛṣṇa.
