sei rÄtri tÄhÄá¹… rahi' tÄá¹…re ká¹›pÄ kari'
pÄṇá¸ya-deÅ›e tÄmraparṇī gelÄ gaurahari
sei rÄtri - that night; tÄhÄá¹… - there; rahi' - staying; tÄá¹…re - unto the brÄhmaṇa; ká¹›pÄ kari' - showing mercy; pÄṇá¸ya-deÅ›e - in the country known as PÄṇá¸ya-deÅ›a; tÄmraparṇī - to the river named TÄmraparṇī; gelÄ - went; gaurahari - Lord ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu.
ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu passed that night in the house of the brÄhmaṇa. Then, after showing him mercy, the Lord started toward the TÄmraparṇī River in PÄṇá¸ya-deÅ›a.
PÄṇá¸ya-deÅ›a is situated in the southern part of India known as Kerala and Cola. In all these areas there were many kings with the title PÄṇá¸ya who ruled over Madurai and RÄmeÅ›vara. In the RÄmÄyaṇa the TÄmraparṇī River is mentioned. The TÄmraparṇī, also known as the Puruṇai, flows through Tirunelveli before entering the Bay of Bengal. The TÄmraparṇī River is also mentioned in ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam (11.5.39).
