Due to fear of the Muslims, GopÄla went to MathurÄ, where He remained in the house of Viá¹há¹haleÅ›vara for one full month.

Purport

When the two brothers ÅšrÄ«la RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ« and SanÄtana GosvÄmÄ« went to Vá¹›ndÄvana, they decided to live there. Following ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu’s example, they did not climb the hill because they considered it nondifferent from Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. On some pretext, the GopÄla Deity granted ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu an audience beneath the hill, and GopÄla similarly favored ÅšrÄ«la RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ« and SanÄtana GosvÄmÄ«. During his ripe old age, when RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ« could not go to Govardhana Hill because of invalidity, GopÄla kindly went to MathurÄ and remained at the house of Viá¹há¹haleÅ›vara for one month. It was then that ÅšrÄ«la RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ« could see GopÄla’s beauty to his heart’s content.

The following description concerning Viá¹há¹haleÅ›vara is given in the Bhakti-ratnÄkara (Fifth Wave):

ÅšrÄ« Vallabha Bhaá¹á¹a had two sons. The elder, GopÄ«nÄtha, was born in 1432 ÅšakÄbda Era (A.D. 1510), and the younger, Viá¹há¹haleÅ›vara, was born in 1437 (A.D. 1515) and died in 1507 (A.D. 1585). Viá¹há¹haleÅ›vara had seven sons: Giridhara, Govinda, BÄlakṛṣṇa, GokuleÅ›a, RaghunÄtha, YadunÄtha and GhanaÅ›yÄma. Viá¹há¹haleÅ›vara completed many of his father’s unfinished books, including his commentary on the VedÄnta-sÅ«tra, the SubodhinÄ« commentary on ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam, Vidvan-maṇá¸ana, ŚṛṅgÄra-rasa-maṇá¸ana and NyÄsÄdeÅ›a-vivaraṇa. ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu went to Vá¹›ndÄvana before the birth of Viá¹há¹haleÅ›vara. As previously mentioned, ÅšrÄ«la RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ« was very old at the time GopÄla stayed at the house of Viá¹há¹haleÅ›vara.
