bhagavÄn mahad-Ädibhiḥ
sambhÅ«taá¹ á¹£oá¸aÅ›a-kalam
Ädau loka-sisá¹›ká¹£ayÄ
jagá¹›he - accepted; pauruá¹£am - the puruá¹£a incarnation; rÅ«pam - the form; bhagavÄn - the Supreme Personality of Godhead; mahat-Ädibhiḥ - by the total material energy etc.; sambhÅ«tam - created; á¹£oá¸aÅ›a - sixteen; kalam - energies; Ädau - originally; loka - the material worlds; sisá¹›ká¹£ayÄ - with the desire to create.
This is a verse from ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam (1.3.1). The commentary of Madhva on ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam mentions that the following sixteen spiritual energies are present in the spiritual world: (1) Å›rÄ«, (2) bhÅ«, (3) lÄ«lÄ, (4) kÄnti, (5) kÄ«rti, (6) tuá¹£á¹i, (7) gÄ«r, (8) puá¹£á¹i, (9) satyÄ (10) jñÄnÄjñÄnÄ, (11) jayÄ utkará¹£iṇī, (12) vimalÄ, (13) yogamÄyÄ, (14) prahvÄ«, (15) īśÄnÄ and (16) anugrahÄ. In his commentary on the Laghu-bhÄgavatÄmá¹›ta, ÅšrÄ« Baladeva VidyÄbhūṣaṇa has said that the above energies are also known by nine names: (1) vimalÄ, (2) utkará¹£iṇī (3) jñÄnÄ, (4) kriyÄ, (5) yogÄ, (6) prahvÄ«, (7) satyÄ, (8) īśÄnÄ and (9) anugrahÄ. In the Bhagavat-sandarbha of ÅšrÄ«la JÄ«va GosvÄmÄ« (text 117) they are described as Å›rÄ«, puá¹£á¹i, gÄ«r, kÄnti, kÄ«rti, tuá¹£á¹i, ilÄ, jayÄ; vidyÄvidyÄ, mÄyÄ, samvit, sandhinÄ«, hlÄdinÄ«, bhakti, mÅ«rti, vimalÄ, yogÄ, prahvÄ«, īśÄnÄ, anugrahÄ, etc. All these energies act in different spheres of the Lord’s supremacy.
