rÄdhÄ-saha krÄ«á¸Ä rasa-vá¹›ddhira kÄraṇa
Ära saba gopÄ«-gaṇa rasopakaraṇa
rÄdhÄ-saha - with ÅšrÄ«matÄ« RÄdhÄrÄṇī; krÄ«á¸Ä - pastimes; rasa - of mellow; vá¹›ddhira - of the increase; kÄraṇa - the cause; Ära - the other; saba - all; gopÄ«-gaṇa - gopÄ«s; rasa-upakaraṇa - accessories of mellow.
It is said that the gopÄ«s are divided into five groups, namely the sakhÄ«s, nitya-sakhÄ«s, prÄṇa-sakhÄ«s, priya-sakhÄ«s and parama-preá¹£á¹ha-sakhÄ«s. All these fair-complexioned associates of ÅšrÄ«matÄ« RÄdhÄrÄṇī, the Queen of Vá¹›ndÄvana-dhÄma, are expert artists in evoking erotic sentiments in Kṛṣṇa. The parama-preá¹£á¹ha-sakhÄ«s are eight in number, and in the ecstatic dealings of Kṛṣṇa and RÄdhÄ they side sometimes with Kṛṣṇa and at other times with RÄdhÄrÄṇī, just to create a situation in which it appears that they favor one against the other. That makes the exchange of mellows more palatable.
