His forefathers were Å›Äktas who worshiped the goddess KirÄ«á¹eÅ›varÄ«. It is said that Maá¹…gala Vaiṣṇava, formerly a staunch brahmacÄrÄ«, left home and later married the daughter of his disciple PrÄṇanÄtha AdhikÄrÄ« in the village of MayanÄá¸Äla. The descendants of this family are known as the ṬhÄkuras of KÄá¹…daá¸Ä, which is a village in the district of Burdwan near Katwa. Scattered descendants of Maá¹…gala Vaiṣṇava, thirty-six families altogether, still live there. Among the celebrated disciples of Maá¹…gala ṬhÄkura are PrÄṇanÄtha AdhikÄrÄ«, Puruá¹£ottama CakravartÄ« of the village of KÄá¹…daá¸Ä, and Ná¹›siá¹ha-prasÄda Mitra, whose family members are well-known má¹›daá¹…ga players. SudhÄkṛṣṇa Mitra and NikuñjavihÄrÄ« Mitra are both especially famous má¹›daá¹…ga players. In the family of Puruá¹£ottama CakravartÄ« there are famous persons like KuñjavihÄrÄ« CakravartÄ« and RÄdhÄvallabha CakravartÄ«, who now live in the district of Birbhum. They professionally recite songs from Caitanya-maá¹…gala. It is said that when Maá¹…gala ṬhÄkura was constructing a road from Bengal to JagannÄtha PurÄ«, he found a Deity of RÄdhÄvallabha while digging a lake. At that time he was living in the locality of KÄá¹…daá¸Ä, in the village named RÄṇīpura. The Å›ÄlagrÄma-Å›ilÄ personally worshiped by Maá¹…gala ṬhÄkura still exists in the village of KÄá¹…daá¸Ä. A temple has been constructed there for the worship of Vá¹›ndÄvana-candra. Maá¹…gala ṬhÄkura had three sons — RÄdhikÄprasÄda, GopÄ«ramaṇa and ÅšyÄmakiÅ›ora. The descendants of these three sons are still living.â€
