(he) bharatará¹£abha–O Arjuna, noblest of the BhÄratas; tvam–you; tasmÄt–therefore; Ädau–first; indriyÄṇi niyamya–bring the senses under control; hi–and completely; prajahi–destroy; enam–this desire; pÄpmÄnam–which is the embodiment of sin; jñÄna-vijñÄna-nÄÅ›anam– and the destroyer of both jñÄn, knowledge of the self and non-self as delineated in the scriptures, and vijñÄn, realisation of such knowledge.
