(he) bharatarṣabha–O Arjuna, noblest of the Bhāratas; tvam–you; tasmāt–therefore; ādau–first; indriyāṇi niyamya–bring the senses under control; hi–and completely; prajahi–destroy; enam–this desire; pāpmānam–which is the embodiment of sin; jñāna-vijñāna-nāśanam– and the destroyer of both jñān, knowledge of the self and non-self as delineated in the scriptures, and vijñān, realisation of such knowledge.

Therefore, O noblest of the Bhāratas, control your senses and destroy this desire, the embodiment of sin, which destroys both knowledge and realisation.
